James 1:13-15 (NIV) When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when by his own evil desires he is lured away and enticed. Then after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
For me, understanding the root of temptation gives way to not only a better understanding of how to practice self control, but it also deepens my desire to be strengthened to resist what is clearly not productive in life. Since it’s coming from my evil desire, then my prayers are the Lord will help me to change my desires to what is good. And the only way to do that is prayer, fasting, reading and studying scripture and fellowship (with both God and people).
